The Flame

Levity raced through the woods like a spirit,
Named for his manner to fly like the wind,
Lacing her finger into his long mane,
Her horse was her playmate and very best friend.

Dashing through leaves on the thick forest floor,
Pushing through briars and weaving through trees,
Easily vaulting the creek-side embankment,
Levity magically moved like the breeze.

Down the steep canyon, the vertical slide, Catherine was fearlessly willing to ride.

The day had been long and the party exhausted,
Time to turn home ‘fore the darkness arrived,
Catherine Elizabeth noticed the path up a towering mountain,
And she was revived!

A nudge with her knee sent Levity racing,
Delicate strides up a treacherous trail,
Half hour later, they reached the plateau,
The monstrous mount they had managed to scale.

Sundown upon her, she watched the horizon,
She rested atop of the mountaintop peak,
Prepared to acknowledge a gnawing affection,
Emotion was leaving her breathless and weak.

Night would come quickly, inviting the cold.
A Light in the distance…she knew it:  the HOLD.

The Hold was aglow on a distant high mountain,
Across several valleys and 10 peaks away,
Thrilled with the view of the King’s humble palace,
Presenting much grander by night than by day.

He was the issue, the King of the nation,
She kept her distance.  He clearly did not,
The Covenant King made a personal offer,
An offer of Light: become Patriot.

She heard of Their battles, the love of the Prince,
And she felt the urging to stand at their side…
This wasn’t a matter that she could take lightly,
….To figure it out, she decided to ride…

Throwing her body on Levity’s back,
Pulling her lantern from deep in her pack,
Blue light illumed and it served as a guide,
To practical matters like honor and pride:
Worries, concerns, every logical thing,
She spoke them aloud to the Covenant King.

Oh, as I gaze at the beautiful flame,
The soft, gentle, magical glow that burns blue,
How pleased I have been.  I have loved it, sincerely.
I know that the flame was a present from You.
A spark the You gave me…a tool meant to bless,
At times, I assumed, it was mine to possess.

I think of those times of the hazy, blue smoke,
My pride in my glow is a sickening joke,
Beauty was never my flame that burned blue,
Beauty is always the Presence of YOU.

I spoke of You, King,
And I urged them to go.
Few, very few left the valley below.
All seemed to note the extent of the climb,
You patiently watched as we wasted our time.

How can I show them, when You called me first?
What can I give that will cause them to thirst?
I gave them my light:  happy, sensitive blue,
And it was found lacking the Presence of You.

The Presence of You may be seen in Your flame,
As Patriots glow in Your mercy and grace,
The lantern that raises Your glorious Light,
Projects nothing more than Your heart and Your face.

Oh, to be nearer the Presence of You,
Is better, much better than anything blue.

The road through the bottoms and mystical marshes,
On Levity’s back, was no problem at all…
But to climb the great mount in the dark of the night,
Could lead to a turbulent, treacherous fall.

Kimber will not understand why royal blue is not enough,
And Kimber will be injured when a sapphire flame I dare to snuff,
And Kimber Lea will look at me as if I am rejecting her,
And yet, I choose to chase You, King, not looking back, as if I were.
I’m fearful of the chance that she would dare to say, “It’s Him or me.”
To choose You, King, I risk the loss of my beloved, Kimber Lea.

Clearly there’s no other path, the Prince was heard.  He had His say,
The Light defines allegiance and the single, solitary Way,
He calls my name.  I hear His voice.  He ever seems to beckon me.
And though I am the first to go- I hear Him calling Kimber Lea…
(This truly means the world to me.)

Nearing the Hold of the Covenant Father,
Who sits on the throne of the mountain, aglow…
Catherine has weighed every point of commitment,
She’s consciously leaving the valley below…

Levity faithfully carried the Lady, who lifted the lantern illuming bright blue,
The moon was a crescent above in the sky
As the old, humble Hold promptly came into view.

Levity climbs like he’s not even tired,
We rise to the stars and the heavens are wild,
Up to the Hold, to confess my allegiance,
Honestly, urgently, free as a child.

As Levity pulls up the mountain of stone,
I’m anxious to offer my heart to the throne.
I no longer bargain…I want what He gives.
I want to be part of the life that He lives.
I want to sit close to the King every day,
I want to be told of His life and His Way.
I want Him to save me and call me His own,
I want to take part in professing His throne!
Oh, my, that He wants me!  How can this be true?
I snuff out the light that had burned in me, blue.

Sweet, little lantern, now empty of flame,
I knock on His door and I cry out His Name!!!!
“The Prince is the Lord!” I’m in front of Him, still.
This is the day I surrender my will.

Hinged little lantern door squeaked, opening…
Held in the hands of the Covenant King.
Slowly the wick took the Light of His Name…
And it grew…
And it grew…
And it………..
…………..…BURST INTO FLAME!
